How We Use Personal Information
At the time of collection of personal information, Fortis Properties will inform the individual concerned of the purposes for which the information is being collected. Individuals will be informed of the purposes in a manner that is clear, concise and comprehensible.
We do not use any of our guest or tenant information to contact our guests or tenants for marketing purposes. We will only contact you after your stay to ask about your experience in our hotel or if it is clearly in your interest for us to do so.
We will never sell your personal information to another company, except as part of a sale of all or substantially all of the assets of a particular hotel or Fortis Properties.
Many of our hotels are connected to the computer systems of the brands with which the hotels are associated. The operators of those systems may have access to the specific information related to a reservation and a guest's reservation history, but they do not have routine access to detailed information, often referred to as "folio information", such as specific purchases made or activities engaged in while a guest at one of our hotels. Many of our guests choose to be members of particular customer loyalty programs operated by the hotel groups with which some of our hotels are associated. All collection, use and disclosure of personal information in connection with these programs is subject to the individual customer agreements with the program operators.
Video Surveillance
We use video surveillance of certain public spaces in our hotels and properties to protect our guests, tenants and property. In most cases, signage is in place to indicate video surveillance is ongoing. The tapes from these systems are cycled, ensuring that recordings are available only for a short period of time. These recordings are used for safety and security purposes.
Document Retention
Fortis Properties has enacted a document retention policy, which requires the destruction of personal information that has outlived its purpose. Certain documentation must be kept for auditing purposes, but all other personal information is securely destroyed when it is no longer needed.
All your personal information is maintained on a "need to know" basis, with access restricted by physical and technological measures.
Individual Access
You have the right to request and access information related to the existence, use and disclosure of your personal information. All access requests should be made in writing to our privacy officer, whose contact information is contained within this document. You will also be asked to provide sufficient identifying information to allow Fortis Properties to search for your personal information and confirm that only your own information is provided.
Challenging Compliance
If you have a concern(s) related to Fortis Properties' personal information handling practices or the manner in which your personal information has been collected, used or disclosed, please speak with one of our customer service representatives. If your concern(s) are not resolved, our staff will refer it to our designated privacy officer. It is our privacy officer's job to investigate your concern and attempt to resolve any complaint as expeditiously and as fairly as possible. If a complaint is found to be justified, Fortis Properties shall take appropriate measures, including, if necessary, amending its policies and practices.
